Have you ever spent a season of your life wondering – seeking – desiring more – or in need of something different? Yeah, me too. It was called my 20’s, and if I’m honest, maybe part of my 30’s too. We often find ourselves on these seeking journeys on the heels of heartbreak or disappointment – when life, or a relationship didn’t turn out the way we imagined. At least that’s how it was for me – maybe you too? I grew up imagining all the pieces would fall into place and create a nice little life - but when the ink dried on my divorce papers at 27, I wondered if there was more…I needed there to be more. And so began my own seeking journey. I’m grateful for the guides I met along the way who pointed me toward Christ and His purposes for my life. Now in my 40’s, I look back and realize that I couldn’t have possibly imagined the life He had for me.
Early in my faith journey, I made a commitment to live my life as a little “experiment” – to try to live fully surrendered to His ways and let my life be the evidence of His goodness. Perhaps that evidence, will be an encouragement to you.
I believe there is a God-destined path you’re meant to walk…a path filled with purpose, grace, and freedom. A path that gracefully accounts for roadblocks and detours. It’s your path to walk – but you don’t have to walk alone. We all need companions for the journey and travel guides to help point us in the right direction. If you’ve found your way here – maybe I’ll serve as a guide in some way for you, as others have served for me. I invite you to follow along and be encouraged by the stories and resources you’ll find here. I look forward to journeying together!
About
Brandy Young is the Executive Director for Wings of Refuge. She grew up on an Illinois farm and imagined her life would be charmingly ordinary. However, as she experienced the brokenness in herself and in the world – she met her Savior, who changed the trajectory. After coming to faith in Christ, she followed a path in and out of the corporate world, local ministries, and overseas missions – serving in urban youth ministry, international agricultural development, and the local church. She’s a co-founder of Field of Hope, a Christian non-profit dedicated to agricultural education and extension in Uganda, and a lifelong learner, recently completing her Master of Arts in Christian Leadership and certificate in Spiritual Direction through Sioux Falls Seminary. She’s grateful for the many people who pointed her toward Christ and His purposes for her life and credits them for her own mentoring heart. Nothing delights her more than helping others walk faithfully with Christ. The words of Isaiah 61 have long captivated her heart: proclaiming the good news, binding up the broken hearted, and setting the captives free, which ultimately drew her into the fight against sex trafficking. She lives in central Iowa with her husband Steve, and their adorable pup Stella. She’s a stepmom to three young adult kids and enjoys all the adventures their lives bring.
